Alright, today’s malfunctioning monitor is a 17” Medion MD9404QB. Why won’t the backlight come on? Let’s crack it open and find out! Well, there is our inverter and if you have a computer that was made in China, you’ll be able to see the arrows pointing at the bad capacitors. I was able to find some compatible replacements on mouser and three days later they were at my door. A quick swap with the soldering iron and this happened:
It started working! There was a little pressure mark on the lower left corner from some rough handling, but as predicted, that has gone away with time.
